Carlow architect Frank Bird fulfilled his dream to build a log home in 2006. With his professional eye and experience Frank paid attention to details using a natural slate roof, granite chimney breast, cast iron radiators, pine floors, sauna, Warm Cell insulation.
The main body of the house and interior walls are built
using solid logs 120x195mm and a cut roof with timer
frame gables for the upper floor. The house has many
interesting and innovative features. He developed a
special method of using the insulation to give extra
sound proofing especially in the upper frame walls.
Incorporated in the desin of the main room is an attractive
mezzanine which serves as a tranquil space separate
from the main activities of the house. The design of
the house has created a wonderful feeling of space and
light with high ceilings on the ground floor and a cathedral
ceiling in the main room.
